Three Reasons Dental Implants Could Be Right for You

We provide dental implants as a convenient replacement option after tooth loss. If you have lost a tooth due to infection, decay, age, or an accident, it can negatively impact the appearance of your smile and make it difficult to speak clearly or eat your favorite foods. The level of inconvenience only grows when you consider that losing a tooth can start the process of resorption, where your calcium is leached from the jawbone to be used in other areas of the body. As a result, many people with tooth loss end up with a sunken appearance, even if they are not very old. This is why we recommend replacing teeth right away. When you do, there are several options to consider. Dentures are the oldest solution and still a dependable option. They have certain inconveniences, though, that cannot be ignored. Dental bridges are a semi-permanent tooth replacement, but they require you to have other surrounding teeth strong enough to support the bridge. In our opinion, the most durable and beneficial solution is dental implants, because they are the only solution that replaces both your lost tooth and root. Here are three signs that this is the right solution for you:
You want a durable new tooth. There is nothing as durable as a natural tooth, but the next best thing is a dental implant. To complete the procedure, we implant a titanium post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone. Over a couple of months, the bone and metal will fuse together through the process of osseointegration. This is entirely unique to titanium, and the melding of the two elements is what gives implants their stability. The jawbone supports the implant just like it would a natural tooth, while the implant provides the stimulation that the jawbone needs to prevent resorption. Once the new tooth is attached, it will not move. It will be as secure and as stable as a natural tooth would be. This means you can eat your favorite foods without restriction and even run a marathon without worrying about your tooth.
You want a solution that is easy to care for. Dental prosthetics have a bad reputation for being a hassle. Since dentures are often removable, requiring special cleaners, pastes, and soaking at night, many people think that replacing teeth has a great deal of trouble associated with it. This is not the case with dental implants. They act like natural teeth, so all you need to do is brush and floss like normal and receive regular dental care. There are no extra steps to worry about. The only thing you need to do is care for them and protect them like you would a natural tooth, so we recommend wearing a mouthguard if you play sports.
You want a solution that looks natural. If you want a new tooth that blends in seamlessly, consider dental implants. To make your new tooth or teeth, we will take an impression of your mouth, make measurements, and use a shade card. This way, the dental lab can create a new tooth that looks like your natural ones.
In our office, we can help you decide which type of prosthetic is right for you and provide you with more information about dental implants. To learn more, call and schedule a consultation.
