As a Local Dentist Office, Here is What You Should Know About Dentistry

As a local dentist office, we believe that the more you know – the better. Oral health is important for the health of the entire body so taking time to learn about your teeth and gums are important.  We understand that a lot of people don’t think about their teeth unless they hurt or are having them cleaned.  This is why we take the time to speak with our patients and provide information on a regular basis.

Here are some of the things about modern dental care that you should know:

We can save and restore teeth instead of pulling them.

While Hollywood likes to portray a dentist as excited people that run around pulling teeth, this is far from the current reality.  We specialize in restorations so that when a tooth is cracked, chipped or infected, we can treat and restore it.  By doing so, a tooth can remain in place without needing to be pulled.  One of the ways that we do so is with dental veneers.  A cracked tooth, for example, can be restored using veneers so that the tooth will regain its appearance and functionality. Likewise, if a tooth is infected, we can often perform a root canal in order to remove the infected area only.

Dental treatments are comfortable.

As a local dentist, we understand that many adults fear visiting the dentist, in general.  This is often due to horror stories or a bad childhood experience. The good news is that regardless of what happened in the past, when you visit our office we will keep you completely comfortable during your procedure.  We use sedation dentistry so that patients receive the medication they need to relax and feel good while having their teeth cleaned, or major dental work performed.  This makes it possible for everyone to see the dentist.

You need to take care of your restorations.

Many people make the mistake of thinking that a restoration will last forever regardless of what they do.  This is false as restorations like crowns and veneers require you to practice good oral hygiene at home.  You must still brush and floss your teeth and have them cleaned at least twice per year. Otherwise, an infection could develop that puts your restoration at risk.  After all, they are applied over the top of an existing tooth, so the root structure still remains.  As such, if that area of the mouth becomes infected, the stability of the restoration will be in jeopardy.  Additionally, if you grind your teeth while sleeping, you should start wearing a night guard to prevent them from touching.

You can improve your appearance and health at the same time.

If you need to have dental work done like a cavity repaired, we can perform cosmetic procedures at the same time so that your smile looks as beautiful as it is healthy.  For example, we can use a tooth colored filling instead of a metal one and whiten your teeth so that they shin brilliantly.  In our dentist office, we make it easy to improve your smile.
