Posted on: October 7th, 2014 by Dr. Gabor Bodnar

Teeth WhiteningIf you want a teeth whitening procedure, Dr. Bodnar is the expert that you should see.  Whitening your teeth can produce stunning results, and your appearance will improve greatly.  In fact, it is perhaps the easiest way to transform your smile and your looks because it doesn’t require hours in the gym and is non-invasive.

Patients frequently ask Dr. Bodnar how the procedure works and a variety of other questions during a consultation. He has answered some of those questions for you here.

Why should I whiten my teeth?
Studies conducted by Oral-B found that people who had a beautiful smile were thought to be 20 percent more attractive than those without.  Additional studies found that people that are attractive make more money at work and are viewed as more helpful than their peers.  This creates a financial reason to improve the look of your smile.

How does teeth whitening work?
When a solution containing peroxide is placed onto your teeth, the oxidation process starts to take place.  The molecules inside of your teeth start to oxidize and reflect less light.  This makes them colorless and appear whiter.

What are the ways to whiten teeth?
You can buy strips or trays at the drug store, but they don’t work as well. Teeth whitening procedures conducted by a dentist are more impactful and can be done in the office or with customized whitening trays at home.

How white will my teeth get?
When you have your teeth whitened by a dentist, they can get up to eight shades whiter.  This will produce a dramatic and stunning result that will easily transform your smile.  If you use an over the counter solution instead, it will typically whiten by around two shades.  Professional grade solution is the best way to get your teeth white and beautiful.

Will my teeth hurt?
Not if you have your teeth whitened by a dentist.  As a doctor of dentistry, Dr. Bodnar will inspect your teeth and gums to make sure that they are healthy enough for the procedure before getting started.  By ensuring that that the whitening trays fit perfectly, the gums and teeth won’t experience any discomfort.  If, however, your teeth are whitened at the tanning salon or by over the counter solutions, there might be some sensitivity.  This is typically due to ill-fitting trays that allow the solution to leak out of them and onto your gums.

Can I control how white my teeth get?
Yes, you can.  One of the easiest ways to do so is by using customized teeth whitening trays at home.  You wear them at night for a week or longer so when they reach the shade of white that you want, simply stop using them.

It is easy to have a teeth whitening procedure completed, and the results are stunning.  To get started, call our office and schedule a consultation.  Dr. Bodnar can meet with you to discuss the options that are available to you.
